We are excited to announce our continued partnership with the DPS Hub Farm! This year, LMMS students will go to the farm twice in the fall and twice in the spring. The fall visits are to orient the student to the farm and explain that our visits are an element of the Erdkinder program at LMMS. Erdkinder is an essential element to any adolescent Montessori program. Maria Montessori believed that adolescents needed to leave the traditional classroom setting and work with the land. This type of experiential learning not only puts the academic content into a real world context, it also helps the students to appreciate the act of physical work. The second set of visits in the spring will focus on begining and completing a project at the farm. We are focusing on helping the farmers with the trail system that is currently in place but not well maintained or marked. A big thanks to Sarah Walls, Fred Pfeiffer, Ken Eaton, Lucy Eaton, and Corie Hlavaty for spending some of their time at the farm this summer to ensure a successful Hub Farm program for the 2018-2019 school year. Please keep and eye out for permission slips that should be coming home shortly!
