Githens Middle School's STEAM Night is making a comeback this school year on April 25th from 5-7:30! Please come join us for a night of science fun and check out what scholars have been doing in other contents as well. There will be STEM activities hosted by our very own students to showcase labs and activities that they have done in class. Duke Physics and Duke Nanoscience professors and their students will be here for some fun hands-on activities and demonstrations for students and families. We will have the Star Lab on loan from the Museum of Life and Science, as well as the Raleigh Astronomy Club set up on the front lawn with their telescopes, fingers crossed for clear skies! We have more in the works, but we are hoping to secure some more outside science outreach presenters. If you know of anyone that would be interested in presenting that evening, please have them contact Mrs. Burns (rebecca_burns@dpsnc.net) for more information.
Another exciting part of our night will be hosted by our very own 7th grader, Cassie Southerland! She is spearheading the Science Fair portion of our night for her Girl Scout project. Students are not required to complete a project but are encouraged. All science teachers at Githens have received a copy of the Science Fair Packet; if your child is interested, please have them reach out to their child's science teacher for the packet, or they can reach out to Cassie directly at Cassandra-Sutherland@dpsnc.net and she can bring them a copy of the packet.
If anyone would like to donate prizes for the winners of the fair, Cassie has created an approved Amazon Wish List for event prizes. All prizes purchased will be delivered directly to Githens. Cassie is also in need of judges for the science fair the evening of the event. If you are interested in judging, please reach out to Cassie and let her know you are willing to be a judge.(Cassandra-Sutherland@dpsnc.net)
