Get Ready for Family Game Night
Please join us on Thursday, May 11, from 5:30-7 p.m. for Family Game Night! Please use the BACK entrance of the building for this event. Pizza and drinks will be available for purchase. Come compete against your friends, family and teachers in cards, board games, gym games and BINGO. This event is open to Githens scholars and their families, as well as future Githens scholars and their families. Parents, please stay with your scholar at this event. RSVP for this event here.

Hoorah for FLL Club!
Save the date: May 18, 2023, First LEGO League (FLL) Club Meeting
The final 2022-2023 Hoorah for FLL club meeting will be after school on Thursday, May 18. Club members and their friends (or any interested students) are invited. We will watch highlights from this year's national competition, see a preview of next year's theme, play kick ball and have snacks. Students should plan to bring or wear clothing and shoes that they are OK with getting dirty. Please let me know if your child(ren) will be coming and/or if they will be bringing a friend. Lastly, please let me know if anyone has any food allergies.

Spring Dance Help Needed
The Spring Dance (Neon Night!) has been rescheduled for Friday, May 19, from 6-8 p.m. If you signed up before, please check to make sure you can still work your shift. Volunteers are still needed to help make this a success. Sign up here. Refreshments will be on sale. Please send your student to the dance with small bills.

Congratulations to Mr. Ghosh!
Look at that belt!!! Our own Mr. Ghosh, Githens EC teacher extraordinaire, was named the Durham Public Schools April 2023 Equity Champion of the Month!! His colleague, Brooks Carroll, nominated him and noted the following:
"Ananda Ghosh advocates on behalf of all students. He is very reflective of equitable practices and how they impact a student's daily experience. Mr. Ghosh is one of the GSA facilitators at Githens and always strives to make sure all of our students are treated fairly, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion.”
Way to go, Mr. Ghosh!
PTA Treasurer Needed
We really need your help!!!! The PTA will need a new Treasurer next year to keep things moving smoothly. Please email PTA President Carrie Williamson at githensptapresident@gmail.com if you are interested in helping with this position or any PTA role next school year. Also, please plan on tuning into the the next PTA meeting on May 16 via Zoom. We need quorum in order to vote on the PTA Officers for next year. Thank you.
Saturday Math Academies Githens math teachers, EC staff and administrators are hosting Saturday Math Academies to help students achieve greater understanding and results in math from 9 a.m. to noon on the following Saturdays: May 6 May 20 Families must provide their own transportation. This program is for all grade levels.

La reunión final del club Hoorah for FLL 2022-2023 será después de la escuela el jueves 18 de mayo. Los miembros del club y sus amigos (o cualquier estudiante interesado) están invitados.
