Good evening Githens families please listen to the follow message regarding important information:

School starts tomorrow, August 26th and I am so excited to welcome you to a new school year, The Raider Way! We will open the doors for scholars to enter into the building at 8:00am. For the safety of your scholar, please do not drop them off and leave them prior to 8:00am.

Breakfast and lunch are free to all DPS students this year. 

School supply lists for each grade level can be found on our school website. 

Afternoon dismissal for carpool scholars will be staggered in order to reduce the amount of traffic on Old Chapel Hill Road and to keep the safety of our scholars a priority.

• 7th grade students will be dismissed at approximately 3:20pm to the front of the building

• 6th grade students will be dismissed at approximately 3:30pm to the front of the building

• 8th grade students will be dismissed at approximately 3:40pm to the bus parking lot located off Southwest Durham Road

No students will be dismissed between 3:00pm - 3:20pm

Lastly,

For our students' safety, we wanted to make you aware that Githens Middle School is currently under a fire watch until repairs are completed on the fire alarm system. A fire watch is being conducted to ensure the safety of students and staff while the building is occupied. Fire Watch personnel are trained to alert building staff and call 911 in the event of an emergency. The safety of all DPS students is always a top priority and we will continue to take the necessary steps as directed by the Durham County Fire Marshal.
