Good evening Githens Raiders.  This is Dr. Lanier with important reminders as we enter the last week of school!  Please listen carefully to all details.  

Friday, June 9 is the last day of school and it is an early release day.  Scholars will be dismissed at 1:20.  For scholars that ride buses, given our history with transportation, please have a strong plan B in the event a bus and/or a driver is missing or delayed on that day.  Parents, if your scholar is a carpool rider, you will need to be on time to pick up your scholar.  

This week, teachers will begin communicating EOG results to scholars and some of you may have received calls from your grade level administrator or grade level counselor regarding Take Two.  For those scholars that were close to proficiency, Githens will offer scholars extra instruction and an additional testing opportunity through our Take Two program.  Githens teachers will provide Take Two scholars with targeted interventions and instruction so that identified scholars can achieve proficiency.  The dates for Take Two will be June 12th - June 16th.  Intensive remediation will occur on Monday, June 12th, and testing will occur on Tuesday, June 13th, through Friday, June 16th, if needed.  Scholars will only need to attend the remediation date and the number of testing days needed to complete retakes.  For example, if your scholar only needs to retake the math EOG, they will attend Take Two on Monday, June 12th, and Tuesday, June 13th.  Parents can pick up their scholars once their scholar has completed their test.  Scholars will be in school from 8:30 to 1:20 and breakfast and lunch will be provided.  Transportation will extend current bus routes during the dates listed above. Any scholar that received bus service during the school year will be eligible for transportation.  It is also important to note that we use End of Grade testing data to place students in the appropriate classes each year.  Scholars who do not meet the district guidelines for course placement will not be placed in honors level classes.  If you have not been contacted about Take Two participation and wish for your scholar to attend the remediation session, retake exams, or you have questions about Take Two or the information outlined, please contact your scholar’s grade level administrator.

For planning purposes, we ask that you confirm your scholar’s attendance with your grade level administrator.

Individual Student Reports for state assessments taken during this school year will be uploaded into the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  You can access your scholar’s reports by clicking the “State Test Reports” icon in the navigation panel on the left side of the parent portal.  Report cards will be printed and sent home with your scholar on the last day of school.

This year, families will be able to get a head start on Back-to-School. The Back-to-School campaign has officially launched.  DPS wants to ensure that schools are positioned to open with all of the logistics completed before the end of this year as we prepare for the first day of the new 2023-2024 school year.

Key components of the form, most of which are required by board policy or state/federal law, include: 

• Student Handbook Verification (required for long term suspension appeals)

• Transportation information
• Military information
• District policies – technology, directory information, etc.
