Principal's Message 9/13

Good afternoon Githens families.  This is Dr. Sheldon Lanier with a few reminders and important items.  Please listen carefully to all details.

An important reminder that students are required to be in classrooms, seated, with materials ready, and cell phones powered off at 7:30.  Students entering the building after 7:30 will be marked tardy.  We still have a lot of students coming to school after 7:30 missing valuable instruction.  Scholars must be on time for school.  Please make sure your scholar is wearing a mask before they leave your home or your car.  Masks are required by the city of Durham and Durham Public Schools.  On Wednesday, students will dismiss from school at 12:20  As such, from 12:20 to 12:35, all families picking up 6th grade scholars should come through the carpool lane in the front of the building.  From 12:40 to 12:55, all families picking up 7th grade scholars should come through the carpool lane in front of the building.  All families picking up 8th grade scholars should come to the bus parking lot beginning at 12:40 until 12:55.  The bus parking lot is located off of Southwest Durham Drive.  8th grade parents, you will not be able to come to the bus lot early.  We will not allow parents in the bus lot until all the buses are dismissed.  If you are picking up scholars in multiple grade levels, please come to the front car pool lane beginning at 12:40 along with 7th grade dismissal.  Any students that will be walking home must provide written consent to their grade level administrator.  Walkers will be dismissed at 12:20.

PowerSchool Parent Portal is the official source of student grade information and a convenient way for you to update your most current contact information.  DPS has created step by step instructions, as well as video instructions, on how to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  Use the link (https://www.dpsnc.net/Page/383) provided in the email that accompanies this voice message to navigate the setup process.  By now, every scholar should have six grades posted in PowerSchool.  Through your Parent Portal account, you can view them.  Please contact your scholar’s teachers for questions about grades.

Have a great week!
