Principal Update 12/4

Good evening Githens Raiders! This is Dr. Lanier with a brief message for the week! Please listen carefully to all details!

I would like to start this week’s message with a huge thank you to our parents and Githens community. Because of you, we raised $15,538 during this year's Give to Githens fundraising campaign, far exceeding our original goal! Thank you to everyone who donated to support our teachers, students, and Githens community.

From Monday, December 5 to Friday December 9, Githens will be running a Food Drive for Urban Ministries of Durham. Your scholar can drop off canned food donations in the front lobby in the morning. We hope to show our Durham community how much Githens Raiders give back to their community.

In partnership with one of our amazing scholars, we are also collecting new or gently used pajamas! If you have a pair that your scholar has either outgrown, or is no longer using, or you have a pair that you no longer wear, please consider donating them as our Githens’s scholar will be making this donation to the Durham Rescue Mission. The goal is 100 pairs of pajamas by December 16.

Scholars will take district required mid-year benchmark assessments on Thursday, December 8 through Monday, December 12. Tuesday, December 13 will be our make up day. Please mark these dates on your calendar and ensure that your scholar is on time for school at 8:30. We want to support our scholars in doing their best on their benchmarks so they can show what they know!

The following is a list of performances and locations from the Fine Arts Department:

Band 12/12 at 7 pm @ Jordan High School Auditorium
Chorus 12/14 at 7 pm @ Githens Gym
Drama 12/15 at 6:15 pm @ Githens Theater
Orchestra 12/19 at 7 pm @ Jordan High School Auditorium

Student artwork will be displayed throughout the various performances and venues.

The Raiders sports schedule for the week is as follows:

Tuesday, December 6 – Boys and Girls Basketball and Cheerleading versus DSA at Githens

Wednesday, December 7 - Wrestling versus Lucas and Brogden at Lucas

Thursday, December 8 - Boys and Girls Basketball and Cheerleading versus Carrington at Carrington

Game time is 4:45.

All sports ticket sales will be virtual this year through “ticket spicket” and are required for entry. Please use the link provided in the email that accompanies this phone message to follow the steps necessary to purchase tickets. We also encourage all who can to join the Githens Athletics Booster by using the link provided in the email that accompanies this phone message. For further information regarding athletics or specific teams, please email either Ms. Stackhouse, Athletic Director, or the coaches.
