Good evening Githens Raiders! This is Dr. Lanier with a brief message for the week! Please listen carefully to all details!

The 2022-23 DPS Climate Survey for Students will be administered online on Monday, November 14, 2022 to all seventh grade scholars. The survey is designed to measure student perceptions about aspects of their schools including:

Emotional and Physical Safety
Student Discipline
Expectations for Students
Student Support
Social and Emotional Learning
Teacher and Administrator Treatment of Students
School/Classroom Environment and Learning Conditions

Scholars will also be asked about their participation in extracurricular activities. DPS will use scholar feedback to determine the district’s strengths and areas for improvement so improvements can be made to the school’s climate. The DPS independent research partner, K12 Insight, will analyze the results by school, area, and district to identify trends and specific strengths and areas needing improvement. The 2022-23 DPS Climate Survey for Students will be administered electronically by K12 Insight. The survey should take no more than 15-20 minutes to complete.

Githens Multicultural Night casts a spotlight on the richness of our wonderfully diverse community. It's an opportunity for our community to be unified by pride in our students and to celebrate all the richness and benefits we get from being such a diverse community. It is time for all to experience the tastes, sights and sounds of Multicultural Night this Wednesday, November 16, from 6:00 to 8:00.

We are halfway through our annual Give to Githens fundraising campaign and have raised a little more than half of our $12,000 goal. If you haven’t already, please consider donating. No amount is too small and EVERY donation helps. For more information, please see the links in the email that accompanies this phone message.

Winter sports tryouts will begin on Monday, November 14. The tryout times are as follows:

Boys Basketball: 5:45 – 7:45pm

Girls Basketball: 3:45 – 5:45pm

Wrestling: 3:45 – 5:45pm

Cheerleading: 3:45 – 5:45pm

Ultimate Frisbee: 3:45 – 4:45pm

A reminder that The Encore! afterschool program still has space to serve students. The program operates Monday through Thursday from 3:30-5:30 pm at Githens. The program is open to all scholars for a small fee or you may choose to take advantage of a “free” scholarship. This semester, scholars can get assistance with their homework from teachers, have access to robotics & STEM programming in addition to participating in fun, recreational activities. The program provides a daily snack and bus transportation is available if you live in the school’s transportation zone. PowerSchool Parent Portal is the official source of student grade information and a convenient way for you to update your most current contact information. DPS has created step by step instructions, as well as video instructions, on how to access the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
