The start of school and remote learning is still on for August 17
Durham Public Schools has learned that four employees at Shepard Middle School have tested positive for COVID-19. We are following all state and local guidelines.
Based on the information we have, and after communicating with the Durham County Department of Public Health, we will close the building until Wednesday morning, Aug. 19, to conduct thorough disinfecting and cleaning as outlined by CDC guidelines.
The first day of school will still begin with remote learning on Monday, Aug. 17. Shepard Middle School employees who were planning to work on-site while the building is closed may work from home or at Hillside High School (while maintaining social distancing, wearing face coverings, and washing hands frequently). Shepard’s remote learning activities for students will continue as planned.
Due to health, employment and educational privacy laws, we are unable to provide any further information. Please be assured that we are working with the health department as specified in our protocols. The health department is conducting contact tracing and may contact members of the Shepard school community as needed.
If we are able to share further information, please know that we will do so in a timely manner.
