Durham Public Schools joins our entire community in mourning the passing of state Rep. MaryAnn Black.
Rep. Black was a champion for education, public health, and the well-being of Durham’s children. She passed a bill in the N.C. House of Representatives that would have provided more affordable housing for DPS teachers. She was deeply connected with every facet of Durham as a social worker (a one-time National Social Worker of the Year), a county commissioner, and as a leader in Duke Health and the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce.
Rep. Black’s legacy shows the power that can be unleashed for all of Durham’s children when we work together. We thank her and her family for her support of DPS and our school communities.
