Durham Public Schools Welcomes New Principal and Leader of Building Services

The Durham Public Schools Board of Education names Brandon Hodges as Principal of Southern School of Energy and Sustainability. Micheál P. Lynch joins DPS as Senior Executive Director for Building Services.

Brandon Hodges joins DPS as the next principal of Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, effective Feb. 3, 2025.

Hodges has served as an assistant principal at Southeast Raleigh Magnet IB World High School since 2022. While in this role, he served as administrator for English, CTE, and Academies, completing certified observations and professional development plans, implementing classroom walkthroughs, and was a member of the Accreditation, School Leadership, Scheduling, Climate and Culture, Testing, and MTSS teams. For the past three years, he has served as the School Improvement Team Co-Chair. He also served as Southeast Raleigh’s Dean of Climate and Culture.

Hodges graduated from North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a concentration in pre-medicine, as well as UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English. He also earned a graduate certificate in teaching in Secondary Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte; a Master of School Administration and Educational Specialist in Educational Leadership from Appalachian State University. He is also expected to complete his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from Appalachian State University in fall 2025.

He shared his excitement for his new role.

Micheál (pronounced me-haul) Lynch brings a solid background in project management, large building projects, facilities management and budgeting to the role of Senior Executive Director for Building Services. He is a team leader with a track record of achieving cost-effective quality solutions within budget and amidst scheduling constraints. He has also worked within the university, K-12, and municipality settings. 

Lynch comes to DPS from North Carolina Central University, where he has served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management for the past two years. While at NCCU, he managed divisions of capital planning, design and construction; real estate and space allocation; operations, maintenance, and fleet. He refreshed the university’s operations, maintenance, and fleet systems and coordinated property management and space allocation with internal stakeholders and reporting requirements. He also worked with branding, donor and business officers to envision, present and deliver new campus initiatives with Panera, Pepsi-sports, and  heritage hallway.

Lynch graduated with a degree in Construction Management from Technological University in Dublin, Ireland, and has certifications from the UNC School of Government; NC State Energy Management; QA-QC (ISO 9001), and the Chartered Institute of Building (UK), Construction Management Association of America, and Project Management Institute.

"I believe my 30 plus years of experience in all aspects of facilities management across both the public and private sectors will add value to this team."
