Congrats to Carvel Dwyer, 5th Grade Teacher at Burton Magnet Elementary, our Durham Public Schools October 2022 Equity Champion of the Month!! Her colleague, Brandon Daniel, nominated her and noted the following:

"Mrs. Dwyer is our 5th grade teacher at Burton originally from Jamaica. She is a student advocate and is always thinking about how to best support students. She makes personal connections with them, meets privately to establish personal learning goals with them and assists them in reaching those goals by empowering them as independent learners. Mrs. Dwyer is an equity champion because she doesn't just talk the talk, she walks the walk... with students by her side or helping lead the way."
