Congratulations to Tonisha Coburn of Northern High School. Coburn has been named the Durham Public Schools Equity Champion of the Month for the month of September 2021. As a science teacher and equity champion at Northern, she has long advocated for equitable practices in classrooms, grading, assessments, and more. Both staff and students recognize her contributions to the school community and are inspired and informed by her efforts.

The DPS Equity Champion of the Month was created to recognize and celebrate those who make significant contributions to promoting inclusiveness in Durham Public Schools and to advancing the district’s vision of equitable outcomes for all students.
