Say 'AAH': CMA Students Learn About Dentistry

Dr. F. Vincent Allison III We love it when community leaders share their experiences with our students. This month, Dr. F. Vincent Allison III came to the City of Medicine Academy to talk about dentistry to ninth-graders studying health science. He spoke about everything from what it takes to get into dental school, dental specialties, the nuts and bolts of owning a successful dental practice, and (of course) the importance of good oral health.

“At first I was thinking about becoming a pediatric cardiologist,” said freshman Mikayla Patterson. “But after listening to Dr. Allison, my eyes are opened to new possibilities. I am now considering becoming an orthodontist because I want to make a difference in the world by creating pretty smiles.”

Allison is a graduate of Hillside High. He serves on numerous boards and civic organizations including the UNC School of Dentistry admissions committee, the National Dental Association, the Durham County Board of Health, the Old North State Dental Society, the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People, the NAACP and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
