Victoria Morris’ secret to staying ahead of the curve ball that the pandemic threw was “trying to maintain my normal pre-COVID routine. This included separating different times of the day to do different tasks and making sure I had time for myself in the midst of all of it.”
That mindset and determination have earned her much respect, as she is now being courted by schools across the nation. She hopes to decide upon one soon, but in the meantime, she is awaiting responses from Cornell University and New York University. She is also one of five students selected to receive a full, four-year Presidential Scholarship to Spelman College, and Hampton (VA) University and Xavier (LA) University have offered nearly full scholarships . Additionally, she’s contemplating scholarships to Georgia Tech and UNC Charlotte.
The aspiring designer plans to major in Chemistry-Materials Science, participate in an honors program, and study abroad. Ultimately, she will use that scientific background to design innovative materials that can be used to inspire a new type of fashion for clothing, shoes, and other textiles and have her own clothing brand and design company possibly, using the innovative textiles that I have developed.
She credits many for the success she’s experiencing and their impact on her life, especially her parents.
“They have helped me along my educational journey and helped shape me to become the person that I am today, for which I am ever thankful,” she said.
They motivate her to be the best she can be, and she enjoys spending time with herehr friends and family at church and in community service.
“I’m motivated by my desire to be the best version of myself through self-development and improvement and to serve others in my community. Surrounding myself with peers and friends who have similar ambitions and drive, also motivates me,” said Victoria. “My challenge for myself is to maintain that drive as I pursue my college endeavors.”
Victoria graduates this year with the status of college junior. She considers this her greatest accomplishment to date.
