April 2020 DPS Student of the Month is Anagha Jandhyala from Durham School of the Arts.

Jandhyala is a senior and an academic powerhouse considered by faculty and staff to be a respectful, hardworking, and focused learner.

During her time at DSA, she has effortlessly maintained an A average.  Not only does she manage a full academic schedule at DSA, but she is also enrolled in four online courses at the NC School of Science and Math.

DSA’s principal David Hawks said, “Jandhyala is every teacher’s dream student: she is a positive person, hardworking, passionate about her studies, and kind.  She is a leader in and outside of the classroom, always willing to lend a helping hand and go the extra mile to ensure she gets the most out of her educational opportunities.”

Jandhyala is extremely passionate about children and her passion has grown through her experience as a tutor at El Centro Hispano. She says that she enjoys watching them develop both in and outside of the classroom.

Recently, Jandhyala was awarded the prestigious Park Scholarship at North Carolina State University. Park Scholarship recipients receive a four-year scholarship on the basis of outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

As for her future goals, Jandhyala would like to become a patent lawyer and later start a non-profit organization focused on helping children affected by the “opportunity gap.”  Her dream is to see everyone afforded the kinds of resources she has been blessed with and to help increase their chances for success and happiness in life.

The Durham Public Schools Board of Education and the entire #WeAreDPS community are extremely proud of Anagha Jandhyala’s commitment to her academic studies and her passion for our youth. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
