April Student of the Month Miguel Mateo Perez, also known as Antonio to his teachers, friends, and family, is just being himself but he is quite the role model at Jordan High School, according to his principal, teachers, and other administrators.

“He is one of my star students this year in ESL Earth Science. Antonio is a diligent student. He is always on time, prepared for class, and excited to learn. Most importantly, Antonio loves to help his classmates. He works with students across all language barriers to help them understand the material, and he is a fantastic group leader, said William Colin Dail, Miguel’s teacher.

His leadership skills are notable, as he delegates group work according to people's strengths and ensures that his group accomplishes all of their goals, said Dail. 

So humble in fact that he credits his mother for his success thus far in life.

“My mom is very important in my life because she has always helped me with everything,” he said.

Antonio plans to attend Durham Technical Community College and become credentialed as an electrician so that he can open his own company. His biggest motivation is his family in Guatemala, whom he wants to help when he is able.

Antonio considers starting a new life in America as his biggest accomplishment. His Jordan educator family is sure that he will succeed. 

“I know that I can always count on Antonio to be a great student, classmate, and person. And he is super humble. He would never expect an honor like this!” said Dail.
