Principal's Update for the Week of 9/3/24
Greetings, Families!
This is Principal Cheek with your weekly update. We had an amazing first week of school at Carrington! We spent time reviewing class and grade level expectations last week, but this week, all classes will dive deeper into their curriculum.
Please note the following things that are happening in Cougar Country this week:
Students will begin receiving their chromebooks: 6th grade on Tuesday, 7th grade on Wednesday, and 8th grade on Thursday. Students will bring these home daily. Please help us by ensuring that our students are taking care of their devices and treating them well.
ALL band students need to bring their instrument to school starting Tuesday Sept. 3rd
If you are interested in joining band (all grade levels), students AND parents need to contact Mr. Halliday by Wednesday Sept. 4th. His email is jordan_halliday@dpsnc.net
On Friday, September 6th, Carrington Middle School will have our Back-To-School Dance from 6:00PM to 8:00PM in Gym 1. Tickets are $5 to enter and can be purchased online using the QR Code or payment link on the Carrington Website. Cash payments will be accepted on Thursday, September 5th from 11:30AM to 1:30PM. The last day to purchase tickets will be Thursday, September 5th. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Snacks, Drinks, Candy and other items will be available for purchase at the dance. For more information regarding this event, please contact Mrs. Rasheeda Johnson at (919)560-3916 x 16242 or rasheeda_johnson@dpsnc.net.
Are you interested in traveling to Central Europe over spring break with other CMS students? There are15 spots still available on this year’s trip to visit Germany, the Czech Republic and Switzerland. Underground WWII tunnels in Prague, a graffiti workshop near the remains of the Berlin Wall, and a Swiss Alps experience are just some of the highlights. If interested, please come to the parent interest meeting on Thursday, September 5 at 6:00 in B-9.
We are already enrolling for NEXT year’s trip to Costa Rica. There will be an interest meeting on Thursday, September 5 at 7:00 in B-9. Spanish interpreters will be available.
If you can’t make the meeting or have questions, please contact Amanda McCall at amanda_mccall@dpsnc.net or 919-56-3916 ext. 16310
Students should expect to begin their iReady and Reading Plus diagnostic the week of Sept 9th.
Lastly, families, I encourage you to sign up as an observer on Canvas (our learning platform) and make sure that you have PowerSchool access so that you can remain informed of your child's grades and assignments. This is a great way to partner with us for your student's success.
It's going to be a great year because we are focused on intentionality. We know that intentional actions lead to intentional results!
Enjoy the rest of this holiday weekend!
