Principal's Update for the Week of 4/30/23
Good afternoon Cougar Country,
Early Release Day: Parents, Wednesday, May 3 is an Early Release Day. All students will be dismissed at 1:20pm. There will be no after school programs.
Band & Orchestra Concert: The CMS Band and Orchestra concert is now scheduled for Tuesday, May 9 at 6:00 p.m. This concert is free and welcome to all friends, family and community. This concert is rescheduled from Monday, May 1st.
Progress Reports: Parents, progress reports will be distributed in all classes on Monday, May 8.
Travel to Japan: Are you interested in traveling to Japan with the CMS Global Travel Program next spring break? Start planning now by attending the parent interest meeting virtually on May 10th at 6:00 or in person on May 11 at 6:00 at CMS. We will be taking an origami class, taking a dinner cruise down from Mt. Fuji, spending a day at Tokyo Disney Sea, taking a cooking class, going to a robot dinner show and so much more! Northern High School Sports Interest Meeting: On May 15th, at 6:30pm Northern High School will be hosting an athlete interest meeting. Any student that is interested in playing any sport from any season should plan to attend. We will be going over paperwork requirements, the registration process, tryout dates, and all the vital information that is involved in the athletics process. We will also have our booster club and coaches present so parents can learn how to be involved and kids have a chance to meet their coaches and join group chats prior to the first day of tryouts.
Clothing Collection Box: A clothing collection box has been installed just outside the CMS gate. CMS receives a small monetary donation for every pound of clothing collected.
Sports News This week in CMS sports, Monday, May 1, Track and Field will host Githens and Neal for 8th grade night. The tri-meet will start at 4:45 pm. Tuesday, May 2, baseball, softball, and girls’ soccer will host DSA for 8th grade night. All games will start at 4:45 pm. Boys’ Tennis will travel to Discovery and the match will start at 4:00 pm. Tickets must be purchased online at ticketspicket.com or on Carrington’s athletic webpage for home games. When purchasing away game tickets you must go to the opposing team's website and link to purchase tickets. The cost for a game ticket is $5.00. Children elementary age and under are free. Per Durham Public Schools Athletic Department, spectators are limited to one small, clear bag. Spectators who leave an athletic contest must purchase another ticket for re-entry. All parties must be present at the gate when validating tickets. Screenshots of game tickets are not allowed. Parents and students, middle school students must be accompanied by an adult to enter and watch athletic events. This is part of spectator and safety guidance policies for DPS athletic events.
Sports Physicals: EmergeOrtho on 120 William Penn Plaza Durham NC is excited to once again offer our $10 Sports Physical event! This year Sports Physicals night will take place on Thursday, May 18th, 4:00p – 7:00pm at multiple locations around the Triangle. Please see below for the list of participating locations. Cash or check ONLY. Student-athletes need to fill out the medical history portion of the physical form, signed and dated by a parent/guardian.
