Principal's Update for the week of 02/06/23

Good afternoon Cougar Country,

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) month.  As we celebrate CTE month the CTE Department is hosting a school wide spirit week.  We are inviting all to dress up and celebrate with us.   

Monday (February 6) -Hats off to CTE- wear your favorite hat.  

Tuesday(February 7) - Professional Day "CTE Dress for Success"  

Wednesday (February 8) - CTE IS " JEANIUS" wear your favorite Denim and or Red for ED 

Thursday (February 9) -Cougars are CCMR Wear College, Career, or Military   

Friday (February 10) -CTE ROCKS! Wear Rock-N-Roll or Rock your Black and Orange 

 

Attention 8th grade families, the deadline to apply to any DPS CTE/Magnet program is Monday, Feb 6th. For more information, including the timeline and application, use the link in the email version of this message.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Rawlinson.

North Carolina schools are required to test all students with limited English proficiency (LEP) in the spring of each year to determine their progress in learning English. Each student is tested in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.  The ACCESS test dates for Carrington are Monday, February 13th through Tuesday February 28th. 

Families of English Language Learners are invited to a virtual ESL night on Wednesday, February 8, at 5:00.  Families will learn more about logistics and the importance of ACCESS testing at Carrington.  Please join us using the link https://dpsnc.zoom.us/j/92014904138

 

Carrington supporters, we ask for your help in our fundraising effort to generate money to provide needed programs, materials, and resources to our school family. The Fall Festival Fundraiser which was rescheduled from September 30th, 2022 is on for Friday, March 3rd 2023. You may use the link below to register for the fun run, the festival activities and food or to provide a much needed monetary donation to  Carrington.

Parents, the early bird yearbook sales price has ended.  The regular price is now $30 and you can purchase a yearbook from now until Saturday, April 15th. Please see our school website for more information on the online payment method. 

 

This week in CMS sports, Monday, February 6, the wrestling team will host Lucas and DSA for 8th grade night. The match will start at 4:45 pm. Tuesday, February 7, cheerleading and the boys and girls basketball teams will host DSA for 8th grade night.  The game will start at 4:45 pm.  The boys will play first followed by the girl’s game. Tickets must be purchased online at ticketspicket.com or on Carrington’s athletic webpage for home games. When purchasing away game tickets you must go to the opposing team's link and website to purchase tickets.   The cost for a game ticket is $5.00.  Elementary age and under are free.  Per Durham Public Schools Athletic Department, spectators are limited to one small, clear bag.  Spectators who leave an athletic contest must purchase another ticket for re-entry. All parties must be present at the gate when validating your ticket(s).  Screenshots and or pictures of game tickets are not allowed. Parents and students, middle school students must be accompanied by an adult to enter and watch athletic events.
