Principal's Update for the Week of 1/30/23

Attention 8th grade families, the deadline to apply to any DPS CTE/Magnet program is Monday, Feb 6th. For more information, including the timeline and application, use the link in the email version of this email.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Rawlinson.

North Carolina schools are required to test all students with limited English proficiency (LEP) in the spring of each year to determine their progress in learning English. Each student is tested in four areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.  Durham Public Schools annual testing across the school district occurs between January 24th and March 3rd, 2023.  The set test dates specifically for Carrington Middle School will be Monday, February 13th through Tuesday February 28th. After all testing is completed, parents whose student was tested will be notified of the results.  Please call your child’s school if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for allowing us the privilege of working with your child.

Students who are interested in playing a spring sport (softball, baseball, girl soccer and track and field) must submit their sports physical completed by the doctor, a concussion form and consent to play form.   All forms are due to Ms. Hurst in T-4 by January 31. If you tried out or played a sport to include volleyball, cheerleading, boys soccer, girls tennis, football, basketball and or wrestling a new sports physical is not required.

This week in CMS sports, Tuesday, January 31, cheerleading and the boys and girls basketball teams will host Lowe’s Grove.  The game will start at 4:45 pm.  The boys will play first followed by the girl’s game.   Wednesday, February 1, the wrestling team will host Brogden.  The match will start at 4:45 pm. Thursday, February 2, cheerleading and the boys and girls basketball teams will host Brogden.  The game will start at 4:45 pm.  The girls will play first followed by the boy’s game. Tickets must be purchased online at ticketspicket.com or on Carrington’s athletic webpage for home games. When purchasing away game tickets you must go to the opposing team's link and website to purchase tickets.   The cost for a game ticket is $5.00.  Elementary age and under are free.  Per Durham Public Schools Athletic Department, spectators are limited to one small, clear bag.  Spectators who leave an athletic contest must purchase another ticket for re-entry. All parties must be present at the gate when validating your ticket(s).  Screenshots and or pictures of game tickets are not allowed. Parents and students, middle school students must be accompanied by an adult to enter and watch athletic events moving forward, this includes MS and HS athletics.  This is part of spectator and safety guidance for DPS athletic events.
