Principal's Update Week of 01/10/23
Good evening Cougar families,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a happy and restful holiday.
Attention 8th grade families! On Wednesday January 11th at 6:00pm, we will host a high school parent night here at Carrington Middle School. Representatives from Durham Public Schools will be here to talk about district programs including magnet schools, pathway programs, and other Durham Public School high school options. Again, this night will be held at Carrington Middle School on January 11th at 6:00pm in the Media Center.
Parents, Saturday Academy is a program designed to offer students additional help in ELA, Math, and 8th grade Science. Tutoring support is available on line. Students can access the Zoom links below:

Parents our 2022-2023 school yearbook is now on sale. We are happy to offer students a way to hold on to memories from the school year and commemorate special events.
You can receive $5 off the purchase price if you pay for the yearbook now. The cost is only $25 from January 4th - February 2nd. After February 2nd the regular price will be $30. Yearbook sales end on Saturday, April 15th. For more information on how to pay for a yearbook, please see the student flyers being sent home and our school website. Payments will only be processed through our school online payment method.
Parents who wish to create and purchase an ad for the 2022-23 school yearbook may start designing online now! Space is limited and on a first come first served basis. Yearbook ads are only for 8th grade students. No ads will be sold on campus. Parent Ads are on sale Monday January 5th through February 9th. The prices for ads are one fourth page ad is $50, one half page ad is $70, and full page ad is $90.
Students that are interested in playing a spring sport (softball, baseball, girl soccer and track and field) must submit their sports physical completed by the doctor, a concussion form and consent to play form. All forms are due to Ms. Hurst in T-4 by January 31. If you tried out or played a sport to include volleyball, cheerleading, boys soccer, girls tennis, football, basketball and or wrestling a new sports physical is not required.
This week in CMS sports, Tuesday, January 10 , the cheerleading and basketball teams will travel to Lowe’s Grove. The game will start at 4:45 pm. The girls will play first followed by the boy’s game. Wednesday, January 11, the wrestling team will travel to DSA. The match will start at 4:45 pm. Thursday, January 12 , the cheerleading and both basketball teams will travel to Brogden. The game will start at 4:45 pm. The girls will play first followed by the boy’s game. Tickets must be purchased online at ticketspicket.com or on Carrington’s athletic webpage for home games. When purchasing away game tickets you must go to the opposing team's link and website to purchase tickets. The cost for a game ticket is $5.00. Elementary age and under are free. Per Durham Public Schools Athletic Department, spectators are limited to one small, clear bag. Spectators who leave an athletic contest must purchase another ticket for re-entry. All parties must be present at the gate when validating your ticket(s). Screenshots and or pictures of game tickets are not allowed. Parents and students, middle school students must be accompanied by an adult to enter and watch athletic events moving forward, this includes MS and HS athletics. This is part of spectator and safety guidance for DPS athletic events.
