Durham Public Schools will soon break ground for a new elementary school in South Durham, and the district is seeking assistance with naming the new school. The school will be located near the intersection of S. Roxboro Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway, and is slated to open in August 2023. Construction is anticipated to begin Summer 2022.

Community members are asked to visit ENGAGE.dpsnc.net to share their suggestions with the district by Thursday, September 30. Recommendations will be shared with the Board of Education at its October work session.

The community also provided name recommendations for another DPS elementary school last year. Lyons Farm Elementary, located on Scott King Road, is currently under construction and will open in August 2022.
