Weekly Message for the Week of 2/22/21

Good afternoon Parkwood Community,
I am sure that many of you already know that on Thursday February 18, our DPS Board of Education voted 5-2 to move forward with returning students to the classroom, whether or not Senate Bill 37 passes. This does not mean that your child has to attend in-person learning. All families still have a choice; families may choose in-person instruction or to continue with remote learning. All families must complete the ’21 Spring Learning Preference Form (http://bit.ly/spring21choice) by Wednesday February 24. It is important to note that once a family makes the decision, that decision will be in effect for the remainder of the school year.
Many of the logistics of in-person and remote learning at Parkwood will be worked out once we have the final number of students who will attend in-person learning and students who will continue with remote learning. I promise to keep you all updated through the process as we make these very important decisions.
Third quarter progress reports will be available via the Parent Portal beginning tomorrow, Monday February 22, at 8am. Please review your child’s progress and reach out to your child’s teacher with any specific concerns or celebrations you would like to share.
Here are some important updates from our Parkwood PTA: March 1 – March 5 will be Virtual Spirit Week at Parkwood. Stay tuned for more information! March 6 – March 21, the PTA will host a virtual Bedford Falls Book Fair. On March 6, the PTA will support the DPS Employee Food Pantry at Parkwood United Methodist Church.
I know that this time can be very stressful. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me at any time (anna_rusconi@dpsnc.net) for more information or to talk through any concerns you may have.
Thank you for reading and remember – Parkwood Panthers show PRIDE!
