Weekly Message 9/11/22

Hello Parkwood Families,

We have ended another wonderful week and our Panthers are working hard on learning PRIDE and showing those expectations every day!  As I have walked the halls and by classrooms, students are engaged and our teachers are working hard building amazing communities within the building!  I want to say thank you to our entire community for supporting our students and being committed to helping them grow.

COVID Protocols and Information:

This year we will continue to follow protocols that will help us limit exposure and contact trace COVID-19 within our school buildings.  It is important to notify your child’s teacher when your student is sick or has tested positive for COVID-19.  If your child has a fever and is showing signs or symptoms that are COVID-19 related it is important to keep your child at home to ensure they receive rest and are symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school.  If your child has symptoms, please get your child tested to ensure they are not positive for COVID-19.  If your child test positive, they will need to quarantine for five days and will need to mask when they return for an additional five days.  We will continue to test students at the school but at a limited capacity this year.  If you are interested in getting your child tested at the school, please fill out the COVID-19 testing Online Student Registration link.  Please refer to this slide for additional information about COVID-19 protocols.

Tardies and Attendance:

Please have your student at school by the instructional bell at 7:45am.  All students that arrive after 7:45am, are tardy, and will need to report to the main lobby to give their name to the front office.  It is very important that students are in their classrooms and ready for instruction at the beginning of the day.  This sets the tone for the day and creates an environment for academic success.

Arrival and Dismissal:

Please remember that Kindergarten and 5th grade students will be dropped off/ picked up in the Upper Lot off Revere Road.  Students in Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades will use the Lower Lot off Clermont Road. If you have more than one student at Parkwood and any of them are in Kindergarten or 5th grade, your family will use the Upper Lot off Revere Road.  Please do not park in the school parking lot, across the street at the Apartment complex and/or get out of your car to pick-up your student during dismissal.  If your child is a walker, you will pick your child up at the black gate.  Prior to your arrival at school, you will scan the QR code on your dismissal template, enter your child’s name, and type their dismissal number under their correct grade level. Please pay special attention to your child’s grade level on the form. If you do not put your child’s dismissal number in the correct grade level, their teacher will not see it and your child will therefore not be ready for pickup. If you have more than one child, you can list each of their names on the first line, and then you will type their corresponding dismissal numbers under the correct grade level and submit. This will notify your child’s teacher of your pending arrival so that your child is at the car line waiting when you arrive.

Early Release Day:

September 28th is an early release day.  Dismissal will begin at 12:15pm, so please follow the dismissal procedure as stated above.  All students will need to be picked up by 12:45pm.  All dismissal changes need to be made prior to 11am.  Early pick-up will end at 11:45am.

Pre-K and Kindergarten students:

All Pre-K students moving forward should be dropped off at the front lobby to meet with Ms. Thaxton and she will escort them to the classroom.  All Kindergarten students should be dropped off in carpool and they will be escorted to their classroom by an instructional assistant at the front of E Building.  We want to thank all of our Pre-K and Kindergarten parents for being flexible these last two weeks.  We know this is a huge transition for our newest Panthers and we are so thankful for all of the support in getting them acclimated to the school building.

Visitor Information:

We are extremely happy to welcome our families back into the building.  However, there are still guidelines we are expected to follow to ensure the safety and health of our staff, students and families.  Parents and guardians of students in first grade and above will not be permitted to walk students to class or visit classrooms.  This does not include parent/teacher conferences, parent meetings, or in-person school hosted events.  This is to reduce traffic within the school building at a very busy time in the morning and limit interactions and exposures for all of our school community.  All visitors must adhere to current masking policies, at this time mask are recommended but are not required.

Title 1 Night:

On September 22nd, we will host our Curriculum Night at Parkwood from 5:30pm to 7:15pm.  Please join us for food and fun with our amazing teachers and staff.  Our teachers will cover information about what your child will be learning this year and resources you can access to support your child’s learning at home.  The link to Curriculum Night is available here with all of the details for the event.  We hope to see you there!

Medication for Students:
