Weekly Message 9/4/22

Hello Parkwood Families,

I first want to thank all of my Parkwood family for a wonderful week!  I truly believe and know we have the best teachers, staff and families in DPS.  Teachers were ready to build amazing relationships and communities in their classrooms.  Students were showing PRIDE throughout the school building and families were very patient as we navigated arrival and dismissal!  We are truly thankful for your support and encouragement this past week!

Reminders:

Holiday:

All Durham Public Schools will be closed on Monday, September 5th in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.  We will resume our normal school week on Tuesday, September 6th.

Car Pool Drop-off:

This week we will begin the process of taking tardies for students that arrive after 7:45am.  Please have your student at Parkwood and in the building by 7:45am to begin the instructional day.  As we move into the second week of school, we have enjoyed seeing our newest panthers in the building with Pre-K and Kindergarten completing staggered entry.  Kindergarten families will drop-off their students in the upper lot off Revere Road and Pre-K students will drop-off their students in the lower lot off Clermont Road.  This will be the last week that Pre-K families have the option to walk their students to class.  Pre-K families will move to the very front of the lower lot and park alongside the curved sidewalk or available parking space, to escort their students into the building.  A staff member will direct you to where you need to park that will be out of the traffic lane.  All other families will need to come through the car pool line to drop-off students, please do not park in the parking lot when dropping off students for morning carpool.

Dismissal:

Kindergarten and 5th grade students will continue to be dropped off/ picked up in the Upper Lot off Revere Road.  Students in Pre-K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades will use the Lower Lot off Clermont Road. If you have more than one student at Parkwood and any of them are in Kindergarten or 5th grade, your family will use the Upper Lot off Revere Road.  Please do not park in the parking lot or across the street at the Apartment complex and/or get out of your car to pick-up your student during dismissal.  We are trying very hard to minimize the amount of traffic at the front of the school and call students according to how they are arriving in the car line.  If your child is a walker, you will pick your child up at the black gate.

By now you should have received a car dismissal template to put on the dashboard of your car. Prior to your arrival at school, you will scan the QR code on your dismissal template, enter your child’s name, and type their dismissal number under their correctgrade level. Please pay special attention to your child’s grade level on the form. If you do not put your child’s dismissal number in the correct grade level, their teacher will not see it and your child will therefore not be ready for pickup. If you have more than one child, you can list each of their names on the first line, and then you will type their corresponding dismissal numbers under the correct grade level and submit. This will notify your child’s teacher of your pending arrival so that your child is at the car line waiting when you arrive.

Visitor Guidelines:  We are extremely happy to welcome our families back into the building.  However, there are still guidelines we are expected to follow to ensure the safety and health of our staff, students and families.  Parents and guardians of students in first grade and above will not be permitted to walk students to class or visit classrooms.  This does not include parent/teacher conferences, parent meetings, or in-person school hosted events.  This is to reduce traffic within the school building at a very busy time in the morning and limit interactions and exposures for all of our school community.  All visitors must adhere to current masking policies, at this time mask are recommended not required.

Medications:

For students with a medical condition requiring medication at school, please make sure the following are completed

  • Have your healthcare provider complete and sign the Parent Request and Provider Order for Medication form for any medications or treatments needed by your child at school.
  • This applies to both prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications
  • Make sure that both your signature and the healthcare provider signature are on the form along with current date
  • Bring all documents and medications to the front office
  • ALL medications must be brought to school in the original pharmacy-labeled package
