Weekly Message 6/4/23
Hello Parkwood Families,
This is your principal Ms. Fearrington with you weekly message. This is the LAST week of the 2022-2023 school year! I cannot believe the year has went by so fast. I want to thank all of our amazing families for entrusting us with your most precious gift! Here are some reminders and important information for this week.
Kindergarten & 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony:
We are so excited to celebrate our amazing Kindergarten and 5th grade students as they are promoted to 1stgrade and middle school! The Kindergarten ceremony will be held at Parkwood this Monday, June 5th at 10am and the 5th grade ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 7th at 9am in the gym. All families will need to sign in at the black gate outside of the E building. We will have staff there to greet you and show you to the gym. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or Ms. Jacqueline Boone, our school secretary.
3rd, 4th & 5th Grade Field Trips:
We will be sharing with families all students who are eligible to go on the field trip this week. Please refer to the parent letter sent home with all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students, for criteria that determines eligibility to attend the field trip. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Ms. Fearrington at Kimberly_fearrington@dpsnc.net or Ms. Carswell at Kathleen_carswell@dpsnc.net. Please refer to the email for the list of field trip dates for each grade level:
- Tuesday, June 6th – 4th Grade Field Trip to Bowlero
- Thursday, June 8th – 5th Grade Field Trip to Bowlero and 3rd Grade Field Trip to Museum of Life and Sciences.
Important Dates:
The last day of school for all DPS students is Friday, June 9th. June 9th will be an early release day, so dismissal will begin at 12:15pm and all students need to be picked up by 12:45pm. Please make sure to check with afterschool transportation if your student rides a van or bus to an afterschool program.
Report Cards and Parent Portal:
Final report card distribution will be on June 9th. Report cards will automatically go into your Parent Portal for you to view. If you do not have a parent portal or cannot access your portal, please reach out to Ms. Joanne Brosh, our data manager at joanne_brosh@dpsnc.net. Please reach out to your child’s teacher by Thursday, June 8th if you will need a paper copy.
Back to School Form:
It is time to update your student’s information and get ready for the 2023-24 school year. The directions to fill out the Back to School form are linked here. Please follow these directions carefully and if you need assistance please reach out to Ms. Joanne Brosh at joanne_brosh@dpsnc.net or Ms. Jacqueline Boone at jacqueline_campbell@dpsnc.net.
EOG Testing:
Next week marks our last week of EOG testing. The remaining dates for EOG’s are listed in the email. Please make sure that students are at school on time, well rested and ready for the test.
- Monday, June 5th – 4th Grade Math EOG
- Wednesday, June 7th – 5th Grade Science EOG and 3rd Grade RtA Reading Retake
Parkwood Title 1 Parent Engagement Survey:
As we end the year, we are always looking for feedback to determine how we can continue to improve and grow as a school. As a Title 1 school, we know that engaging our families and community for feedback is the most meaningful way to move forward and continue to strive for academic excellence. Please complete the survey linked in this email as soon as possible so we may began the process of gathering information and implementing way to improve and grow for next year!
Spirit Week:
We want to end the school year with a BANG and what better way than to show our school spirit! This Monday through Friday will be the last spirit week of the year. We ask that all students participate to show their PANTHER PRIDE! The event for this week are provided in the email.
- Monday, June 5th – Our Future is Bright and Sunny! (Wear Hats & Sunglasses)
- Tuesday, June 6th – Tie Die Tuesday (Wear your Tie Dye or lot’s of color)
- Wednesday, June 7th – Superhero Day (Dress as your favorite superhero!) “NO MASKS ALLOWED”
- Thursday, June 8th – Tropical Thursday (Dress in your favorite tropical gear – Hawaiian shirts, shorts, dresses, etc) – “NO BATHING SUITS ALLOWED”
- Friday, June 9th – Glowing with Knowledge (Wear NEON colors and show off your GLOW for the summer!)
