Weekly Message 11/20/22

Hello Parkwood Families,

This is your principal, Ms. Fearrington with your weekly message.  The Thanksgiving break is quickly approaching and I want to thank all of my families for all of the support that you give to our school community every day!  This year has flown by and it is hard to believe that we will be celebrating the holidays so soon, but a nice break to spend with family and focus on what matters the most is always needed.  Here are a few reminders for the week:

Thanksgiving Holiday:

All DPS schools will be closed on Wednesday, November 23rd through Friday, November 25th in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.  We look forward to seeing all students back on Monday, November 28th.

Parkwood School Designation:

During the release of the School Performance Data by the North Carolina Department of Instruction in September 2022, Parkwood Elementary was designated as a Targeted Support and Improvement Additional Targeted Support (TSI-AT) school.  Since Parkwood has been identified as a TSI-AT school, we are required to notify parents of our school’s designation by November 15, 2022, which includes posting a parent notification letter on our school website.  This letter will include information about our comprehensive plan that will specifically address how we will improve student achievement.  This letter will be posted to our website and sent to families through school messenger on November 15, 2022.  Parkwood was also designated as a Low Performing school and there is a letter linked on our website under Quick Links that describes in detail what that designation entails.  If you have any questions, please contact Kimberly Fearrington by email at or call 919-560-3962 ext. 62222.

Picture Day:

There are many ways to stay connected to our community.  Please follow Parkwood Elementary on our Facebook page and website.  Please join the Parkwood PTA!  If you have any questions please visit and/or reach out to Hope Alfaro, our PTA president at

I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!  Enjoy the rest of your weekend and as always Parkwood Panthers…Show PRIDE!
