Hello Parkwood Families,

This is your principal, Ms. Fearrington with your weekly message.  Here are some reminders and important information for next week.

Parkwood School Designation:

During the release of the School Performance Data by the North Carolina Department of Instruction in September 2022, Parkwood Elementary was designated as a Targeted Support and Improvement Additional Targeted Support (TSI-AT) school.  Since Parkwood has been identified as TSI-AT school, we are required to notify parents of our school’s designation by November 15, 2022, which includes posting a parent notification letter on our school website.  This letter will include information about our comprehensive plan that will specifically address how we will improve student achievement.  This letter will be posted to our website and sent to families through school messenger on November 15, 2022.  If you have any questions, please contact Kimberly Fearrington by email at Kimberly_fearrington@dpsnc.net or call 919-560-3962 ext. 62222.

Parent/Teacher Conferences: 

All of our Parkwood teachers have been meeting with parents for parent/teacher conferences.  These conferences are being held now through November 18^th.  If you have already met with your child’s teacher, that is great and continue to communicate to ensure you know your child’s progress.  If you have not met with your child’s teacher, please reach out to them through email or class dojo to set up a time.  All parents should have a conference with their teacher by November 18^th.

Breakfast & Lunch:  I want to remind all of our parents that this year breakfast remains free at all DPS schools.  However, lunch is no longer free and child nutrition will be sending balances to families this month for the beginning of the year.  Lunch is currently $3.75 daily and if you do not have money on your child’s account, that balance has accumulated.  If you need assistance with lunch this school year, please fill out this link or request a form from the front office.  Ms. Jacqueline Boone, our school secretary, will be happy to assist you.

Thanksgiving Break:

Thanksgiving Break is quickly approaching!  All DPS schools will be closed on November 23^rd through November 25^th.  Please refer to the district school calendar provided and linked here for important dates.

Picture Day:

Strawbridge Studios will be at Parkwood on December 1^st for fall pictures.  Information will be coming home with your child soon to assist you with ordering and selecting packages for pictures.  We will send a flyer home as a reminder to save the date for picture day!
