Durham Public Schools
offers several different options for students who are interested in summer enrichment opportunities. Below is a list of programs currently being offered by DPS. If you have any questions about any of the programs listed below, please contact the designated contact for the program.

Operation Summer Learning

  • Operation Summer learning is a comprehensive learning program designed to support students in recovering from learning loss experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to access and exposure to grade-level content, students will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of enrichment activities. This program was designed to connect students back to school in a fun and engaging way.  *High School students will have an opportunity to access credit recovery modules.

  • Ignite Online Academy Summer Learning Opportunities

    Various Locations

    There are 3 summer learning options available through Ignite! Online Learning this summer. The goal of these programs is to ensure all students in Durham have the opportunity to be on track or ahead in the pursuit of their high school diploma.

  • ESL Newcomer Academy

    Lakewood Montessori Middle School
    June 14- July 2 | Monday-Friday | In-person | 8:30am -1 pm

    *Breakfast, lunch, and transportation provided.

    English as a Second Language Newcomer Academy provides newcomers/refugees in their first two years in US schools with real-life experiences through accelerated instruction in English, science, social studies, and math.

  • DPS Spark Camp

    Little River K-8 School
    June 28- July 1 | Monday – Thursday | 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. | Optional After Camp Care 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

    SPARK Camp is open to rising 4th – 8th grade AIG* identified students enrolled in Durham Public Schools. During the four-day camp, students select two classes for exploration, such as Crime Scene Investigation; Science Experiments; Hamilton: The Man, the Myth, the Legend, and many more!

  • Operation Kindergarten: Mission Possible

  • Various Locations
    Session 1: June 14- July 2 | Session 2: July 12-July 16 | Monday-Thursday | Full-Day In person
    *Breakfast, lunch, and transportation provided.

    Mission Possible specifically targets kindergarten readiness. The mission is to enhance social-emotional and academic skills within a classroom environment.

  • Hub Farm Summer Camp

    Located at the Hub Farm
    Session 1: June 14- July 2 (Open to students in all schools) | Session 2: July 12-July 30 (Priority enrollment for students at Hillandale, Eno Valley, Glenn)
    60 seats per session | Grade K - 2 only | Cost: FREE | Monday-Thursday | Full-Day In person | 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

    *Breakfast, lunch, and transportation provided for session 2.

    The Hub Farm Summer Camp provides a hands-on opportunity to learn more about science and math on an actual farm!  Students will be engaged in various activities including working live animals!
