We kicked off the Black History Month by inviting guest readers into our classrooms to read their favorite stories that resonated with them about Black History Month. We had over 40 guest speakers over the weeks.
Each morning we ended morning announcements by celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of a different African American leader in our society.
Our students celebrated and learned about the lives of these African Americans during a month-long project during Wilderness Wednesdays. The activities centered around students researching, writing, and speaking about the contributions of their selected significant figure. The final product was posters and a Living Wax Museum which the whole school toured.
