Greetings Morehead Families!

If I have not met you yet, my name is Andy Scott and I am the VP of Fundraising for the Morehead PTA. I’m excited to announce that today is the start of a five-day, $13,400 fundraising campaign we are once again calling “Meeting the Moment as Meerkats.” You will be able to learn more and donate here, and each day I’ll send an update on our progress.

Last year we surpassed our goal and raised over $18,000 for Morehead, and we are confident we’ll rise to the occasion once again!

This has been a year of changes, both big and small. We are still slowly emerging from the shadow of the pandemic, and life is easing back into familiar routines. It has been a joy to see staples of our life together return, like the Fall Carnival, the Talent Show, and soon the 5th Grade Graduation. As difficult as it has been for families, teachers, and especially students to find our “new normal,” we have shouldered that huge burden together as a community. But normal looks a bit different; two changes that will impact Morehead specifically are the district-wide Growing Together plan, and Principal Webb’s retirement from a role she’s held for 7 years.

It’s this spirit of community in the face of change that I want to highlight over this fundraising campaign. I want to celebrate our ability to adapt and overcome, and spotlight members of the Morehead faculty, staff and community that help shape who we are. Today, I’m going to feature Assistant Principal Jamal Troublefield, who has been in our community since January 2022 and has demonstrated patience and compassion as he worked to build connections in our school.

A veteran administrator, Mr. Troublefield trusts the Montessori process, and knows that even though our new normal looks a bit different, that’s ok.

Morehead students “are remarkably resilient, and it’s our job to meet them where they’re at,” he said. Challenges still remain, especially ongoing efforts to fully staff, onboard and train teachers for a Montessori curriculum.

But despite changes and constant pivots, Mr. Troublefield finds hope in the students he serves. “They keep me grounded,” he said. “Seeing growth in every student is like watching magic happen.”

When asked about what he looks forward to and remembers most each year, Mr. Troublefield pointed to 5th Grade Graduation.

“Our success is measured by student achievement, and there is something special in seeing them ready to transition into middle school,” he said.

It takes a community to raise a meerkat, and I invite you to join us. We have an opportunity to show our support for our incredible teachers and staff through our financial giving and continue the legacy of Morehead’s robust PTA participation and support. We are excited for what this campaign will bring to Morehead and look forward to what we can achieve together.

Me emociona anunciar que hoy es el comienzo de una campaña de recaudación de fondos de $13,400 de cinco días que una vez más llamamos "Meeting the Moment as Meerkats". Podrás donar aquí, y cada día enviaré una actualización sobre nuestro progreso.

El año pasado superamos nuestra meta y recaudamos más de $18,000 para Morehead, ¡y estamos seguros de que estaremos a la altura una vez más!

Este ha sido un año de cambios, tanto grandes como pequeños. Todavía estamos saliendo lentamente de la sombra de la pandemia, y la vida está volviendo a las rutinas familiares. Ha sido un placer ver regresar los elementos básicos de nuestra vida juntos, como el Carnaval de Otoño, el Show de Talentos y pronto la Graduación de 5to Grado. A pesar de lo difícil que ha sido para las familias, los maestros y especialmente los estudiantes encontrar nuestra "nueva normalidad", hemos asumido esa enorme carga juntos como comunidad. Pero lo normal se ve un poco diferente; dos cambios que afectarán específicamente a Morehead son el plan Growing Together de todo el distrito y la jubilación de la directora Webb de un puesto que ha ocupado durante 7 años.

Es este espíritu de comunidad frente al cambio lo que quiero resaltar en esta campaña de recaudación de fondos. Quiero celebrar nuestra capacidad de adaptación y superación, y destacar a los miembros de la facultad, el personal y la comunidad de Morehead que ayudan a dar forma a lo que somos. Hoy voy a presentar al subdirector Jamal Troublefield, quien ha estado en nuestra comunidad desde enero de 2022 y ha demostrado paciencia y compasión mientras trabajaba para construir conexiones en nuestra escuela.

Un administrador veterano, el Sr. Troublefield confía en el proceso Montessori y sabe que aunque nuestra nueva normalidad se ve un poco diferente, está bien.

Los estudiantes de Morehead “son notablemente resistentes, y es nuestro trabajo encontrarlos donde están”, dijo. Todavía quedan desafíos, especialmente los esfuerzos en curso para dotar de personal completo, incorporar y capacitar a los maestros para un plan de estudios Montessori.

Pero a pesar de los cambios y los cambios constantes, el Sr. Troublefield encuentra esperanza en los estudiantes a los que sirve. “Me mantienen conectado a tierra”, dijo. “Ver el crecimiento en cada estudiante es como ver cómo sucede la magia”.

Cuando se le preguntó qué es lo que más espera y recuerda cada año, el Sr. Troublefield señaló la graduación de quinto grado.

“Nuestro éxito se mide por el rendimiento de los estudiantes, y hay algo especial en verlos listos para la transición a la escuela intermedia”, dijo.
