DPS to resume offering Driver Education Classes
After a careful review, Durham Public Schools is pleased to resume offering Driver’s Education to students. Online instruction will resume through Canvas on November 30, and Driver’s Education instructors will contact families to schedule drive times for students awaiting in-car lessons.
Following state guidance, DPS will take the following measures to protect students and instructors:
- There will be only one student per car.
- Two windows will remain open for ventilation.
- All drivers will receive daily temperature checks.
- The instructor will clean all interior parts of the vehicle before and after student use.
- Properly worn face coverings are REQUIRED for students and instructors.
Parents/guardians will be required to sign a waiver. DPS currently has a backlog of roughly 300 students who have been waiting for behind-the-wheel driving instruction, creating an inequity between student able to afford private driving lessons and those unable.
