Hub Farm to Host Virtual Cooking, Reading Night
The Hub Farm and Chef Peter Brodsky of the Northern High School Culinary Arts Department will co-host a virtual cooking night for DPS families and friends on Wednesday, April 20 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. On the menu is spaghetti carbonara with fresh peas to celebrate Spring, according to Hannah Ball-Damberg, Hub Farm Educator. In addition to cooking together, the event will promote literacy as well, featuring a short reading of a storybook about peas. The reading is part of a partnership with the Durham County Library in observance of Library Fest. Interested families can sign up here.
Virtual Cooking Night began as an outgrowth of the pandemic. The Hub Farm is in partnership with Northern High School’s Culinary Arts program to grow, harvest, and maintain fresh crops for special events. This project is a continuation of a three-year partnership between Hub Farm and the Culinary Arts program for farm-to-table initiatives.
The cooking night recipes are sent weeks in advance to families who sign up to participate. Families are featured throughout the show as the chef leads participants through the recipe.
The Hub Farm is a Durham Public Schools-owned 30-acre farm, forest, and aquatic educational center in Durham, North Carolina. Its mission is to engage the Durham Public Schools community in meaningful outdoor experiences.
