Family, Staff and Community Feedback on Virtual Learning

Remote learning is the best way to ensure the health and safety of students, teachers, and staff until the COVID-19 pandemic is beaten back enough to allow in-person instruction. Durham Public Schools has made leaps and bounds forward in the quality of our remote learning since the spring, from device availability to real-time instruction from high-quality teachers to social-emotional wellness. However, remote learning is hard for some students and families (and teachers!) and we are always working to make it better
DPS will gather feedback from staff and families regarding our online learning implementation. This will allow families to provide information on how our school schedules and teaching methods are supporting their students. We will use this feedback to guide adjustments to our schedules and the delivery of instruction so it can best meet the needs of our community. We will take into consideration the amount of screen time for students, potential methods of more flexible instructional delivery, and the amount of time students are expected to spend in live classes.
We ask for your patience during the next three weeks as we evaluate the feedback. We are all at our best when we remain together as we adjust to teaching and learning under COVID-19. DPS will share a survey through our website and social media channels early next week. We are listening and #WeAreDPS.
