4/10/2022 Weekly Message from Dr. Hart-Olivis

Good evening Hillandale Families, this is Dr. Hart-Olivis with this week’s message on Sunday because there is some timely information you’ll need to be prepared for the week.

Hike for Hillandale and spirit wear information will be coming home with your child tomorrow. The Moe’s dinner kits as part of our fundraiser with our incredible PTA ends today.  Please see the announcements in Seesaw for more information.  Families can pick up orders Tuesday, April 12 from 4pm to 5:30pm at the bus parking lot in the back of Hillandale.

Please join our PTA Wednesday, April 13 for a Zoom PTA meeting at 6:30 pm.  The login credentials are available in your Seesaw account and on the Hillandale PTA Facebook page.

We had an opportunity to see some of the Hillandale Community this past weekend at the Durham Public Schools Career Fair.  Candidates interviewed on the spot with the hope of becoming part of The Hillandale Family and part of our unparalleled staff.  Do you know someone interested in interviewing for potential vacancies at Hillandale?  If you do, please ask them to reach out to me directly at

It’s time to update your student’s information and get ready for the 2022-23 school year. Now you can complete all of your back-to-school paperwork online quickly, easily, and securely. This is a great way to update your contact information, fill out forms, and stay connected with your school.

If you already have access to the PowerSchool Parent Portal:

·       Log-on to the PowerSchool Parent Portal | CLICK HERE

·       Click on the Enrollment tab

·       Select Current/Returning Student Information Update

If you DO NOT already have access to the PowerSchool Parent Portal:

·       Your school has emailed access information to the email address on file

·       If we do not have an email address on file, your access information was sent to the mailing address on file

Did you also know that you can reply directly to the Monday Message to reach me?  I enjoy hearing from our parents, and each time I do, I use the information and feedback shared with me to enhance what we’re doing at school.  Just this week, a parent reached out to me to ask about the summer opportunities available here in Durham.  Some students will be invited to a summer bridge program specially designed to support students who have been struggling academically, but Hillandale will also be the site of a tuition-based summer camp offered by our Community Education department, which also supports our before and after school program.  You can find out more information about that camp and even get registration materials at this link:

Durham Public Schools shifts from “masks required” to “masks recommended” for students and staff effective Monday, April 11.

We continue to recommend masks as an important tool in our toolbelt, along with other measures especially including vaccinations, to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are also continuing to communicate with public health officials to ensure that we can respond appropriately if trends worsen.

Although masks are no longer required, DPS staff and students are still encouraged to wear them. DPS will continue to provide masks and PPE to all staff, and masks for all students, upon request. However, effective April 11 DPS staff and students may not require others in their classrooms, workspaces, or school buses to wear masks. Individuals’ decisions to wear or not wear masks must be respected. No employee or student should be made to feel shame for either decision.

Stay up to date about what’s happening at Hillandale on our school website, and on Twitter and Instagram @HillandalePOWER.

As always, thank you for your support, your partnership, and most of all, thank you for being part of The Hillandale Family.

Have an excellent week!
