1/3/2022 Monday Message from Dr. Hart-Olivis
Good evening Hillandale families,
This is Dr. Hart-Olivis with the first Monday Message of 2022.
I hope you enjoyed your winter break and enjoyed an opportunity to recharge. On a personal note, thank you to all of The Hillandale Family who wished my family well as we welcomed our new little one to our home. She is doing well, and I’m thrilled to be back to support our students as they continue to learn and grow this academic year.
As you know, one of the first things on everyone’s mind is how we will fare with the current state of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. Remember that we at Hillandale are required to follow the Durham Public Schools guidelines, which are supported by the state and CDC guidelines. This guidance changes frequently, but our actions in the school will always be based on school board policy.
Here are a few reminders as we return:
- If your child has any of the symptoms of COVID-19, with or without medication, including fever, stuffy nose, cough, loss of smell or taste, upset stomach, or the like, keep them at home and notify the school. You are our first line of defense against the spread of COVID-19 in our school. Students who present any of the symptoms of COVID-19 will be sent home right away.
- All students must wear a mask over their noses and mouths with the exception of permitted mask breaks. Students who refuse to wear their masks appropriately run the risk of both transmitting COVID-19 and being removed from the classrooms we are trying to keep safe and healthy with this protocol. We’re unable to tolerate unsafe behavior endangering the classroom environment.
- Please take the opportunity for your child to be tested right here at Hillandale. The sign up is easy, and it’s one way to have peace of mind to keep your family safe at home. The link is available on the Durham Public Schools website.
Durham Public Schools will be operating on a two-hour delay tomorrow, January 4. This means school doors will open at 10:00 am and students will be marked tardy for their learning day at 10:30 am. Students may not be dropped off at the school prior to this time unless they are already enrolled in the before school program, which will also be operating on a delay.
We’re eager to start the spring semester with your child and start the new year off with you.
Stay up to date about what’s happening at Hillandale on our school website, hillandale.dpsnc.net and on Twitter and Instagram @HillandalePOWER.
Happy new year, and as always, thank you for your support, your partnership, and most of all, thank you for being a part of The Hillandale Family.
Have a wonderful week!
