12/17/2021 Winter Break Message

Dear Hillandale Elementary Students and Families,

We did it! We made it to the winter break and were able to keep our doors open for in-person learning throughout the first semester. It wasn’t easy and it’s taken some getting used to, but as a community you showed you’ll do whatever it takes to keep students safe and learning.

I hope each and every one of our students, teachers, staff, and families have a relaxing and rejuvenating holiday season full of joy and peace. However you spend your holidays, I want to encourage you to continue to be safe when it comes to COVID-19.

While the best way to stay safe and healthy over the Winter Break and beyond is to be vaccinated, breakthrough cases are still possible. To reduce that risk even further, everyone should continue to follow the 3W’s that we follow at school:

Wear Your Mask: When indoors in public spaces (i.e. grocery store) or outdoors in areas with high COVID infection rates, always keep your mask on.

Watch Your Distance: Stay away from people who are sick and when out keep 6-feet of distance between you and others outside your personal circle.

Wash Your Hands: With soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

And if you feel sick or develop COVID-like symptoms, stay home and check in with your local physician.

Finally, with the winter break also comes a break in the COVID communications you receive from the school. With the building empty, families can expect a pause in COVID communications throughout the break. Rest assured, the COVID team will continue to track and update case information for the district and you can expect more information about any impacting cases once we return. The Covid data dashboard will be updated on Monday, January 10, 2022.

For now, take this much needed break to refresh your mind and recharge your batteries. You’ve earned it.

I wish you all a safe, healthy, and wonderful holiday brea
