4/19/2021 Message from Dr. Hart-Olivis

Good evening Hillandale Families,

This is Principal Hart-Olivis with this week’s Monday Message.

Right now we are working to find out more about what students know from this school year as well as planning for our next steps during the summer and next school year.  Students in grades 3-5 are taking the CASE 21 assessment, which will give us an idea of which standards we need to review before the official end-of-grade tests to be administered closer to the end of the school year.  Please encourage your child to stay calm, but work their hardest and show their best work if they are taking these assessments.

As we continue to push for excellence this last quarter of the school year, remember it’s important for students, both in-person and online to be ready to learn each day.  In-person students are welcomed into the building at 8:00 and the tardy bell rings at 8:30.  Online students need to report to morning meetings and the other instructional blocks as designed by their teacher, including specials, each day.  Please help your child be ready to learn with us each day.

This Wednesday is National Administrative Professionals Day.  Words can’t express how incredibly hardworking our administrative professionals are.  Ms. Acevedo (School Secretary), Ms. Brooks (School Treasurer), and Ms. Wilson (Data Manager) keep our front office and building running smoothly and some of the most important parts of our school in place.  Please join me in celebrating these professionals who do it all, ranging from assisting with medication to registering students to keeping our bank statements accurate.  They are truly irreplaceable, and I’m proud to call them my colleagues.

Thank you again to our families who are being diligent about screening students each day for potential COVID-19 symptoms.  The pandemic is not over, but we can continue to keep the spread of the virus away from our school.  If your child presents any of the symptoms on the screener, it is potentially unsafe for them to come to school.

If your child has been diagnosed with COVID-19 since they were last at the school, develops a fever, sustained cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, vomiting or nausea, or has been within 6 feet of someone diagnosed with COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes over a 24 hour period, or has been advised by a health care provider to quarantine, they are ineligible to attend in person on Hillandale’s campus.  In such cases, please reach out as immediately as possible to the school so we can assist with the next steps.

We’re confident that our plan at Hillandale, which relies heavily social distancing, screening protocols, early-reporting, and communication can keep us safe for the remainder of the school year.  We’re so thankful for a supportive community as we aim to keep students safe, healthy, and in school.

Stay up to date about what’s happening at Hillandale on our school website, and on Twitter and Instagram @HillandalePOWER.

As always, thank you for your support, your partnership, and most of all for being part of the Hillandale Family.

Have a wonderful evening!
