4/13/2021 Monday (Tuesday) Message from Dr. Hart-Olivis

Good evening Hillandale Families,

This is Principal Hart-Olivis with this week’s Monday (Tuesday) Message.

This week at Hillandale we have the Bedford Falls Book Fair coming to us virtually!  From now until April 18 our virtual book fair can be accessed from our school website and at this link.  Funds raised from the virtual book fair will come back to the school to support student learning at Hillandale.

This Wednesday, April 14, please join us for Family Reading Night, where an all-star group of Hillandale educators will read selections via Zoom to you and your family.  Reading to your child can help build “language” neural connections in their developing brains.  Let us do it for you Wednesday from 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm.

Did you know that Hillandale Elementary School has become one of the new DPS COVID-19 testing sites?  This is a wonderful, optional opportunity for our families and staff to participate in free testing provided by Ottendorf Labs in partnership with Durham Public Schools.  While the testing is on our campus, Ottendorf Labs will use scheduled dates issued at the district level.  The anticipated days for testing at Hillandale will be Fridays from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Families can chose to have students without symptoms tested one time per week during the school day.  If your family signs your child up for testing, staff members will escort the students to and from the site.  Parents can track the results of COVID-19 tests administered through Ottendorf Labs on a portal provided once the parent has registered the child.

Parents and other members of the family may also participate in testing.  The site for testing is located outdoors near the bus parking lot.  Both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients may be tested at the site. A schedule for testing throught the school district is forthcoming , and we will share this information with our families once we receive it.  Please see the flyer at this link.

Hillandale families, please remember that if your child displays any symptoms of COVID-19, they should not come to the building at Hillandale.  Please monitor any presence of symptoms in your child consistent with the DPS screener each day.  Our best way of keeping everyone in The Hillandale Family safe is to follow the protocols within the building that prevent the potential of spread of COVID-19.  We are confident in our plan at Hillandale as a means by which to ensure that in the case of someone becoming infected within The Hillandale Family, transmission is preventable within the building.  If you do have a positive case in your home, or our student tests positive for COVID-19, please contact the school as soon as possible so we can assist with next steps for your family and the school as a whole.

Stay up to date about what’s happening at Hillandale on our school website, and on Twitter and Instagram @HillandalePOWER.

As always, thank you for your support, your partnership, and most of all for being part of The Hillandale Family.  Have a wonderful week.
