4/5/2021 Monday Message from Principal Hart-Olivis
Good evening Hillandale Families,
This is Principal Hart-Olivis with this week’s Monday Message.
Welcome back from spring break! Thank you to all of our families for your continued support as we aim to keep students safe as we return to both in-person and online learning.
Thank you to our carpool parents for helping us keep the morning carpool line short by filling out the screener each day ahead of time and joining the single line for students to be welcomed into the building. We also thank our carpool parents for keeping our afternoon dismissal process speedy by having each child’s carpool number handy as they join the double line so we can call students out of the building.
This week we are celebrating National Assistant Principals Week! I may be biased, but I can say that Hillandale has the absolute best assistant principal around! This week we celebrate Mr. Michael Bloom, who I’m sure is far too humble not to blush as we honor his enormous contributions to student success at Hillandale. Please join me in thanking him for his unwavering leadership and inspiration to us all.
Families, we still need your help with communication about students with symptoms or coming from scenarios in which they may have been exposed to COVID-19. If you or someone in your home has been exposed to the virus, we need to hear from you so we can take measures to keep everyone safe at school. According to Durham County Department of Public Health and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, individuals who are diagnosed with COVID-19 should isolate, stay at home and away from others until it has been ten days and 24 hours have passed unmedicated yet without symptoms.
People who have been in close contact with individuals who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 should also quarantine immediately and stay away from the person who has been diagnosed as well as others, even in the household. It is possible for a person in close contact to develop symptoms several days after close contact, so it is important for students to stay at home in this case to complete their quarantine or isolation time. This is the time to notify the school, especially if your child has been in the building. We also suggest individuals in this scenario take a COVID-19 test if they develop symptoms. After contact with a person who is positive for COVID-19, especially if the person begins to feel sick during quarantine, it is recommended to take a COVID-19 test and isolate until it has been ten days since the symptoms began and 24 hours have passed unmedicated yet without symptoms.
If you find that your child has symptoms that may indicate exposure to COVID-19, please notify your child’s teacher and keep the child at home. If you have your child tested because of symptoms, the child should stay at home until 24 hours have passed unmedicated yet without symptoms. COVID-19 symptoms include: fever, chills, or repeated shaking/shivering, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath/ difficulty breathing, feeling unusually weak or fatigued, loss of taste or smell, muscle pain, headache, runny or congested nose, or diarrhea.
We are thrilled to have had a safe return to school at Hillandale and hope to continue to keep our students, staff and families safe. Our plan at Hillandale is designed to minimize exposure in the event that anyone within The Hillandale Family falls ill during this time. We know there are many details and they are updated very quickly. We appreciate your continued support and diligence as we aim to maintain this safe space.
Please join us next Wednesday, April 14 for Hillandale Family Reading Night from 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm via Zoom. We’ll have a collection of readers joining us to celebrate artistry of several authors, and this tradition is a Hillandale favorite, even virtually!
Stay up to date about what’s happening at Hillandale on our school website, hillandale.dpsnc.net and on Twitter and Instagram @HillandalePOWER.
As always, thank you for your support, your partnership, and most of all for being part of The Hillandale Family.
Have an excellent week!
