3/22/2021 Monday Message from Dr. Hart-Olivis

Good evening Hillandale Families,

This is Principal Hart-Olivis with this week’s Monday Message.

Now that we have our first week of in-person instruction behind us, there are a few things I want to celebrate with you.  First, thank you again to our families, both in-person and online, for your patience and support during this transition.  Thank you to our carpool families for your part in helping morning and afternoon carpool run smoothly by completing the health screener each morning before dropping students off and being prepared with your child’s carpool number in the afternoons.  This has made our process move from beyond an hour last Monday to right around thirty minutes today.  Thank you!

As we move back toward developing routines in instruction, both in-person and online, please remember that families may not move in and out of virtual instruction without administrative approval at Hillandale.  In some cases, parents have shared with teachers or aimed to decide independently that they would like to shift their learning preference.  This can result in problems with attendance and absences.  To formally request a shift from in-person learning to remote learning or vice versa, please complete this form, and an administrator or our data manager from Hillandale will follow up with you about the decision.  Our school is confident that our in-person learning plan will assist us in reducing the potential spread of COVID-19 if it occurs, and may not be able to approve changes due to the restrictions in the plan.  Families who selected the option of in-person learning whose students have not yet reported, because families are waiting for the possibility of this option, if your child does not report this week, we will invite your child to continue learning virtually to allow a waiting family to bring their student in person.  Changes in learning plans will be final for the remainder of the academic year.

Finally, parents of students working remotely, I need to keep hearing from you about the current online experience.  Thank you to the families who have already reached out with feedback about the various models in the building, from fully virtual to hybrid.  To keep making improvements to our offerings, we need to hear from you.  The more feedback we receive, the stronger our plans become.  You can respond to this email to message me directly, although it takes a bit for me to respond due to a heavy volume of digital correspondence.  I appreciate your patience.

Friday is our last instructional day before spring break.  The school will be closed, both in-person and online from March 29 to April 2.  We hope you and your family have a relaxing, safe break.

Stay up to date about what’s happening at Hillandale on our school website, hillandale.dpsnc.net and on Twitter and Instagram @HillandalePOWER.

As always, thank you for your support, your partnership, and most of all for being part of The Hillandale Family.

Have a wonderful wee
