5/15/2023 Monday Message from Dr. Hart-Olivis
Good evening Hillandale Families,
This is Dr. Hart-Olivis, proud principal of Hillandale Elementary School with this week’s Monday Message.
Hillandale Family, we’re getting closer and closer to the end of the academic year, but we haven’t finished yet. Our instructional staff and our support staff continue to work with our students in all grade levels. We’re looking at the results of our most recent assessments in all grade levels to tell us how we can help our students be ready for next year. We’ll keep communicating with you so you can know how to help your child from home.
Here’s a preview of a few important dates as we close out the academic year:
Tuesday, May 23- EOG assembly
Thursday, May 25 - Reading Day (student targeted review day)
Friday, May 26- 3rd Grade Reading EOG
Friday, May 26- 5th Grade Science EOG
Monday, May 29- NO SCHOOL, Memorial Day Holiday
Wednesday, May 31- 3rd Grade Math EOG
Wednesday, May 31- 5th Grade Math EOG
Wednesday, May 31- 4th Grade Reading EOG
Thursday, June 1- 5th Grade Reading EOG
Friday, June 2- Read to Achieve assessment (3rd grade)
We know end of year testing in third through fifth grade is a small snapshot of what your child has learned this year. Please remember in conversations at home to balance your child’s understanding of the importance of trying their best to show what they know, but also that this is not a full measure of who they are, as a learner or as a person. However, it is an important tool that helps schools decide the content your child will learn the next year.
Specials fun day is this upcoming Thursday, May 18. Please keep an eye out for information from Ms. Lord, our gym teacher, who will be sharing details, including how to keep your child safe during this event. Remember to send your child with safe shoes, water, and sunscreen.
Carpool parents, we’ve noticed an upswing of vehicles moving at dangerous speeds as time gets closer to students being tardy or once carpool is over and parents need to retrieve students from the building. Please be reminded that not only do we have staff standing to assist cars, but also students and families walking, who could be injured unintentionally when reckless driving takes place on campus. We want to be able to welcome all of our safe drivers onto campus, and we hope this continues to include all adults in the lives of your student.
Stay up to date about what’s happening at Hillandale on our school website, hillandale.dpsnc.net and on Twitter and Instagram @HillandalePOWER. You can also respond to me directly from this email, but your child’s teacher is the best first contact.
At Hillandale we strive for everything we do to be results-focused, data-informed, and student-driven. We want to empower your child to excel in the academic and social skills required to be a leader in our community. As always, thank you for your support, your partnership, and most of all, thank you for being part of The Hillandale Family.
At Hillandale we are #HESFullSTEAMahead!
