November 7, 2022: Monday Message from Dr. Hart-Olivis

Good evening Hillandale Families,

This is Dr. Hart-Olivis, proud principal of Hillandale Elementary School with this week’s Monday Message.  You should receive this message in both English and Spanish.

November is Native American History month as well as STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) month.  Join us as we celebrate the contributions of indigenous leaders who paved the way for us today, and ask your child about the fun activities and facts they enjoy in science.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 8 school is closed due to a teacher work day.  It’s also election day, so if you haven’t already, please vote, and take your Hillandale student to see the process.

Wednesday, November 9 will be a general membership meeting for our amazing PTA.  The meeting will be held from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm in Hillandale’s Media Center, and all are welcome.

This week we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our nation’s veterans.  Friday, November 11, school will be closed in observance of Veteran’s Day.

At Hillandale, it’s important to us that we regularly communicate with you about how you can help boost your child’s achievement at school and how important your support is from home.  Every student at Hillandale can learn and grow, and we’re on a team together to help our learners achieve.  Next Wednesday, November 16 from 6 pm to 7 pm, join us for the second part of our family academy, How to Navigate School and Advocate for your Hispanic/Latino Student in DPS.

As future leaders in our community, we are inviting students and their families to contribute to our canned food drive.  Our goal is to collect 500 items to donate to our families in need.  Please join us as we unite as a Hillandale Family.

Stay up to date about what’s happening at Hillandale on our school website, hillandale.dpsnc.net and on Twitter and Instagram @HillandalePOWER.  You can also respond to me directly from this email, but now that we’ve started school, your child’s teacher is the best first contact.

At Hillandale we strive for everything we do to be results-focused, data-informed, and student-driven.  We want to empower your child to excel in the academic and social skills required to be a leader in our community.  As always, thank you for your support, your partnership, and most of all, thank you for being part of The Hillandale Family.

Have a fantastic week!
