Technology Resources (Devices, Email, etc)
Understanding how to operate the technology used for remote learning will be important in starting the school year successfully. Below are resources to help you navigate the tools and platforms DPS will utilize this year.
DPS-ISSUED STUDENT LAPTOPS
Durham Public Schools provides students with access to technological resources. Students will use this technology as a means to promote academic achievement and provide opportunities to enhance the educational experience. Students will use the technology in alignment with the DPS Technology Acceptable Use Policy.
DPS will provide each enrolled K-12 student, if needed, with a laptop. Distribution times and dates will be determined by your child’s school and will be shared with you prior to the start of school. If you choose to use a device currently in your home, you are welcome to do so.
- MOBILE HOTSPOTS
DPS will provide if needed, a Wi-Fi hotspot for students to access the Internet. Distribution times and dates will be determined by your child’s school and will be shared with you prior to the start of school. If you choose to use a device currently in your home, you are welcome to do so.
REMOTE SERVICE SATELLITE DEPOT STATIONS (DPS-issued device servicing, repairs, etc.)
To accommodate staff and students during Remote Learning for Plan C, the DPS IT Department has created Remote Service Satellite Depot Stations. These remote depot stations provide in-person, appointment only, walk-in technical support for students and staff who are having issues with their DPS-issued devices (laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, hotspots).
Most device issues can be resolved over the phone with one of our DPS IT Technicians. For assistance, call the DPS IT Helpdesk directly at 919-560-3837. A help desk ticket will be created and one of our technicians will be able to assist you with troubleshooting your issue. If the issue can not resolved over the phone, you will need to schedule an appointment to visit one of our Remote Service Satellite Depot Stations. Appointments are REQUIRED!
Our IT department recently migrated all student email accounts from Gmail to Outlook 365. If you access your email through a web browser, please note the new URL you will use following the migration is outlook.office365.com. If you access email via a mobile device, you will need to download the Outlook 365 app. You will need to use the same login information to access their account.
