DPS Welcomes New Deputy Superintendent
Dr. King is a career educator with nearly three decades of experience, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to DPS. He begins with the district in October.
“We are fortunate and excited to welcome Dr. King back to DPS in this role,” said Superintendent Dr. Pascal Mubenga. “He has a long-standing track record for moving students and district’s forward. His leadership will be invaluable to our organization as we continue to educate and inspire the next generation of learners.”
Dr. King comes to DPS from Johnston County Schools where he has served as chief academic officer since 2021. Prior to then, he served Albemarle County Schools in Charlottesville, Virginia as director of student services, an elementary school principal, and assistant principal. He also worked as chief academic officer for Northhampton County Schools.
Dr. King is no stranger to the Bull City. He began his career in Durham and taught at Durham High School and Riverside High School. He later served as principal of Glenn Elementary School and is the founding principal of J.D. Clement Early College High School at N.C. Central University.
Dr. King earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from N.C. Central University and attended the University of Virginia, where he earned his doctorate in educational leadership.
