Welcome Mr. Jonathan Brooks! Mr. Brooks is the newly appointed Principal of Eastway Elementary.
Brooks is the former principal of East Albemarle Elementary School in Stanly County, where he was named the district’s Principal of the Year for 2018. He also received the East Albemarle Community Leadership award in 2018 as well as the Pfeiffer University Friend of Education Award in 2019. Previously, he was assistant principal of instruction for Guilford County’s Jackson Middle School and an assistant principal at Hugh Cummings High School in Alamance-Burlington. During this time Brooks received several awards including the Greater Greensboro Communities in Schools award (2016) and the Scholarship Award from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity (2017). Brooks has administrative leadership experience in the areas of Curriculum and Instruction, Finance, Community Engagement, Teacher Support, Testing, Athletics, Fine Arts, Student Services and Exceptional Children.
He began his educational career as a Health and Physical education teacher for Guilford County Schools. Brooks was named Teacher of the year for Gillespie Park Elementary School as well as a district semifinalist for teacher of the year (Guilford County Schools) during the 2012-2013 school year. Brooks has also worked as a Coach for several sports including Football, Basketball and Baseball for several organizations and schools. Brooks believes that all students and staff members can be successful in an environment that values relationships, provides support and involves the community. He holds a Master of School Administration degree from North Carolina A&T State University and is Currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree from Gardner Webb University.
