An employee working at W.G. Pearson Elementary School is presumed positive for COVID-19.  Under DPS’s COVID-19 protocols, W.G. Pearson Elementary School and the W.G. Pearson Learning Center will be closed for two days to allow for contact tracing to ensure no Learning Center students and staff came in close contact with the employee.

The W.G. Pearson Learning Center will reopen on Thursday, Dec. 10. DPS feeding program meal pickup will be available at Shepard Middle or R.N. Harris Elementary schools.

The Durham County Department of Public Health and DPS are identifying individuals who may have come into close contact with this employee, and the health department will reach out to those individuals or, in the case of students, their parents or guardians, to provide guidance on whether they should self-isolate or undergo COVID-19 testing. Close contact is defined by the health department as spending 15 minutes or greater within six feet.
