Durham Public Schools has an extensive safety and security plan, a strong partnership with local law enforcement, and building improvements such as secure vestibules to help protect our students and staff. We also have partnered with experts to develop a comprehensive threat assessment protocol for schools, with all school teams having been trained on this process within the past six months.

As they have for other national traumatic incidents this year, our Student Support Service department will also share resources today with teachers and staff about how best to provide social-emotional support for students affected by the shock of what happened in Texas, along with information about how our employees can access additional support for themselves.
