May I meet with teachers or administrators without an appointment?
To arrange a meeting, please contact the grade level administrator or leave a message at the front desk. We'll get back to you within 24 hours. Due to safety & instructional concerns, we cannot accommodate impromptu meetings.

What schedule will my child follow the first few days of the school year?
Students will follow their printed schedule during the first couple of days of schools. Teachers will also take this time to teach and model classroom and school wide expectations.

Is sex education offered?
Yes, Human Growth & Development is discussed during PE/Health. Permission slips are sent home and parents may opt out of this discussion.

How does carpool work?
Students are dropped off and picked up from the carpool lane. Please pull your car ALL THE WAY to the end to keep traffic moving! If it’s raining, students will stay inside and come out when you arrive.

May I walk my child into school on the first day of school?
Faculty will be in the halls to help students find their classes. For safety, visitors may not walk students to classrooms. If help is needed with fragile, heavy, or awkward items, please bring them to our front office for appropriate delivery.

How does your afterschool program work? How do kids get home afterward?
Our after school program, called Encore, is run by the DPS Community Ed Dept. and may be called at 919.560.9488 with questions or concerns. Bussing is available. Apply online or register early as space is limited.

How do students qualify for advanced math classes?
We use EOG data & teacher recommendations to determine class placement. Email our Math Specialist, christie.blystad@dpsnc.net, or our Language Arts Specialist, jennifer.miske@dpsnc.net, for additional info.

Tell me about buses and "Here Comes the Bus"
Bus routes are determined by the DPS Transportation Dept, which can be contaced with questions or concerns at 919-560-BUSS. Search for Here Comes the Bus wherever you buy apps.

How is team placement determined?
Our administrators and counselors work to ensure that teams are balanced regarding multiple academic and cultural differences. Previous EOG scores and input from previous teachers help us determine class placement.

What happens if a child is late?
The instructional day begins at 7:30am. Students arriving after that are considered late. Students who arrive late should report to the main office.

Should my child bring their backpack home every day or only when they have homework?
That's up to you!

What is the best time to drop off my child in the morning?
Our doors open at 7am. We encourage students to arrive by 7:15 every morning so they’ll have enough time to adjust to school by 7:30 when instruction begins.

Whom should students talk to if they have a concern?
Each quarter, our administrators chat with students to remind them of our procedures, expectations, and to whom to go with a problem. Students should tell a teacher or a nearby adult if they have a concern.
